San shou, is a form of free style fighting
It involves techniques such as punching, kicking and throwing and traditionally took place on a leitai (a raised platform, a bit like a boxing ring without the ropes around it). In the past the leitai was sometimes floated on water, so when a combatant was knocked out of the leitai they would land in water, making it more tiring for them and of course more slippery. In China, san shou competitions would sometimes last over a number of days and with several rounds fought.
I started training at the Shaolin Temple UK in 2006 with Shifu Shi Yan Zi and now I am two times English and British Sanshou Champion. I represented Great Britain in the World Championships within one year of starting training. I have my sights set on becoming European and World Champion over the coming years.
From my studies at the Shaolin Temple, I teach clients a wide range of traditional Gong Fu movements and applications, ranging from traditional strength training to sparring techniques.
Some of the benefits clients achieve from this range from rapid weight loss to improved muscle definition and all round total body fitness improvements as well as the psychological aspects of training at high intensity.
