Sometimes it seems as if the training is not beneficial, ‘not working’, monotonous.
Remind yourself of the goal. Is your goal to be in peak form at Christmas? Is your goal to compete at National Level races in January 2021?
What you are doing now (often 6 months prior to the event or goal) can seem irrelevant to the goal, but is it? Do you want to feel fresh in November? Do you want to be taking every Strava segment in your area now? No, you don’t. You want to feel shattered after an intense block of training, you want to feel the miles in your legs after a steady zone 2 ride, your want to enjoy the recovery food you plan after every training session, you want to feel the progress in your daily core sessions. So when you get to your goal, there’s no fatigue, no heaviness in legs but instead an athlete in peak form, free from injury or illness, and confident that they’ve put the work in, over the previous 6 – 12 months.
Listen to your coach – they know what they are doing so you don’t have to. Keep the training diary green.
